Getting to Eskdale
from all directions is easy, the most straightforward route from North or South
being via the A595 Cumbria Coast road to Holmrook or Gosforth. From the South,
the Birker Fell road which leaves the A595 near Broughton-in-Furness at Duddon
Bridge via Ulpha, is rewarding for its views, and takes just over an hour from
the M6 Junction 36. From the central lakes and the east, the drive over the
Wrynose and Hard Knott passes is an adventure with their 25% gradients.

In
Eskdale Green village, turn right (if approaching from Gosforth or Holmrook) or
left (from Hard Knott or Ulpha) down the lane marked "Randlehow". The Ferns is
100 metres on the left and Whin Rigg is opposite. A good landmark is the
Village Shop and Post Office, opposite the lane end.
You can travel to
Eskdale by train, as the Ravenglass & Eskdale railway runs throughout the
tourist season and connects with the Cumbrian Coast main line at Ravenglass. We
are 5 minutes walk from "The Green" Ratty station. Please request a timetable
when you make your reservation.
The National Grid map reference is NY
142000 and for SatNav users the geographical co-ordinates are 54° 23.3' N
& 3° 19.3' W.
